Mission Statement

Mission

Santa Teresita School is a Catholic elementary school, kindergarten through eighth grade, which serves students from Santa Teresita Parish, Boyle Heights and surrounding communities. In the spirit of Saint Dominic, Santa Teresita School strives to teach students to know God and the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, to acquire skills and knowledge to be successful in life, and to develop Christian values of respect for self, others and all creation.

Philosophy

The purpose of Santa Teresita School is to teach students the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and to integrate religious truth with the rest of life and learning. The school believes in providing a nurturing environment by forming a Christian community comprised of students, teachers and parents whom it recognizes as the primary educators of their children. To promote the students’ faith formation, the school believes in worshiping as a school community and promoting service to others. The school is dedicated to learning experiences that develop each student’s character and academic potential.

Santa Teresita School’s new library: A place for discovery!
Ever since they returned to school in September, students at Santa Teresita School in Los Angeles have kept their eye on a remodeled bungalow on the far end of the playground near the kindergarten building that was formally used classrooms for Title I students. Peering through the windows — like gazing into a chocolate factory — these youngsters were anxiously awaiting the day when those doors would be open to them and their schoolmates.

That day finally arrived in late March when the Santa Teresita School Library was officially blessed by Archbishop José Gomez and deemed “Open for Business.” Parent volunteers, staff and students all joined together in a celebration of gratitude to those benefactors and volunteers who made the library a reality including a major gift from the Shea family. Robert and Helen Zieman were also thanked for their donation of tables and chairs; Sarah and Jay Walters were honored for being the first people to officially donate books to the library (they gathered 30 boxes).
